How many thermostats does a 7.3 have?
There are 2 thermostats to allow the engine to warm up faster. The top Tstat is pretty standard and controls passage to the radiator. The bottom Tstat has a bypass (if closed) to allow coolant to get back to the pump which allows coolant to bypass the radiator. That is how the engine warms up quicker.
What would cause a 7.3 diesel not to start?
Injector Control Pressure Sensor: When an ICP is failing, the engine runs extremely rough as load is imposed (under throttle), and the condition can eventually contribute to a 7.3L's inability to start. Oil contamination in the wiring usually is the cause.
What is a 7.3 Powerstroke?

A key indicator of a bad IPR valve is low injection pressure. Symptoms of a bad 7.3 Powerstroke IPR can range from running very rough to a no start situation. The symptoms can sometimes feel like you have multiple bad injectors, among other things. You can easily and inexpensively resolve this problem.
How many miles will a 7.3 Powerstroke last?
Robust, iron parts, conservative power and low engine speed are the key ingredients for any diesel engine lasting forever—and if a 7.3L has gone unmodified yet been well maintained its entire life, 400,000 to 500,000 miles is virtually guaranteed.
